Femineity: a set of attributes, behaviors, and roles associated with women and girls.
My relationship with femininity is tenuous. From the moment we are born, our lives, play, preferences, presentation, and expected goals are molded by the sex assigned at birth. I tried to resist this as a child, as a teenager, my resolve weakened, now as a young adult, I am left to separate my identity as a female and the much too closely intertwined ideals of femininity.
This collection of work starts to scratch the surface of the pressure, expectations, and shame centered around what a woman “must do” to conform and be valued, from fashion and beauty to physique, silence, and lack of control.
